Drumstick , Mango , Jack fruit seeds (Palakottai) curry :
This is a yummy and very simple sambar goes well with steamed rice. This is my
Mothers receipe.
Ingredients :
·
Tur dal / thuvaram paruppu – ½ - ¾ cup
·
Onion – 2 medium chopped
·
Tomato – 1 chopped
·
Drumstick – 3
·
Mango – 1 small size
·
Jack fruit seeds – 12 – 15 nos
·
Tamarind paste – ½ spn
·
Sambar powder – 2 ½ spn
·
Salt as needed
·
Coriander leaves for garnish
For seasoning:
·
Oil – 2 spn
·
Mustard seeds – ½ spn
·
Urad dal – ½ spn
·
Green chilli – 1 (optional)
·
Cumin seeds – ½ spn (optional)
·
Asafetida – a pinch
·
Curry leaves
Preparation :
·
Pressure cook the tur dal for 2
whistle.
·
Wash and cut drumstick into 3 inch
sized pieces.
·
Wash , discard the seed and cut
mango into medium sized pieces.
·
Cut into palakottai(jack fruit
seeds) into halves. Dry roast it in a pan for 5 to 7 mins to remove the outer
cover.
·
Mix well the tamarind paste in
little water and extract the juice.
Method :
·
Heat oil in a pan, then add the
seasoning one after the another.
·
Then add the chopped onions and
tomato, sauté for few mins.
·
Then add the cooked dal,sambar powder,salt along with enough water.
·
Cover and cook it for 10 mins.
·
Then add jack fruit seeds and
drumstick. Cover and cook it for 10 mins or till it becomes soft and tender.
·
Then add the mongo pieces. Cook it
for 5 mins.
·
Atlast add the tamarind juice and cook
it for 5 to 8 mins.
·
Garnish with coriander leaves. Done!
Delicious sambar is ready.. serve hot with steamed rice J
