Pepper Beetroot Gravy


      
   Pepper Beetroot Gravy :


Ingredients :
·        Toor dal – 1 cup
·        Beetroot – 1 medium
·        Onion – 1 chopped
·        Tomato – 2 chopped
·        Turmeric powder – ¼ spn
·        Chilli powder – 1 spn
·        Coriander powder – 2 spn
·        Lemon juice – 1 spn
·        Salt as needed.

To grind :
·        Cumin seeds – 1 spn
·        Pepper – 1 spn
·        Garlic cloves – 1
·        Green chilli – 1
·        Grated cococnut – 7 spn

To temper:
·        Oil – 1 spn
·        Mustard seeds – ½ spn
·        Urad dal – ½ spn
·        Curry leaves – few

Preparation :
·        Pressure cook dal for 2 whistle and keep  it aside.
·        Cut beetroot into small pieces.You can also pressure cook it for 1 whistle to get soften faster.
·        Grind cumin,pepper ,garlic cloves ,green chili ,coconut along with little water and make a fine paste.

Method :

·        Heat oil in a pan ,add the tempering items.
·        Add chopped onion and sauté till turns light brown.
·        Then add tomatoes and fry until it cooks well.
·        Next add spicy powders ,turmeric powder,salt and beetroot pieces with enough water.
·        Let allow it to cook until raw smell goes off.
·        Then add the grinded paste and cook it for 5 more mins.
·        Atlast add the cooked dal and lemon juice and cook it for another few mins.Done !
                                      

Pepper Beetroot gravy is ready. J serve hot with rice with pappad or raita.
