Banana Flower Vadai / Vazhaipoo Vadai



  Banana Flower Vadai / Vazhaipoo Vadai :
          Banana flower vadai is a traditional south indian receipe. It has been serve as a evening snack or with steamed rice.. really yummy..

Ingredients :
·        Banana flower /vazhaipoo – 2 cups (cleaned and finely chopped)
·        Channa dal /  kadalai paruppu – 1 cup
·        Oil for deep fry

Ingredients added to the vadai batter:
·        Onion – 2 finely chopped
·        Curry leaves -  few
·        Coriander leaves – 2 spn chopped

Ingredients to grind along with dal:
·        Dry red chilli - 3
·        Salt as needed
·        Sombu – 1 spn
·        Asafoetida – ¼ spn

Preparation :
·        Wash and soak channa dal for 2 hours.
·        Clean banana flower and chopped it finely.

Method :
·        After 2 hours, drain the water completely from the dal , then add chillies,  salt ,sombu and asafoetida  and grind it for 3 secs..
·        Then add the chopped banana leaves and grind it coarsely.
·        Now the vadai batter is ready , then add chopped onions ,curry leaves and coriander leaves.
·        Check the salt. Mix well everything.(you can add little rice flour if the batter is watery)
·        Take a small portion from the batter and flatten it slightly and form into a circle shape.
·        Heat oil in a pan , drop the circle shaped batter gently and fry both sides until brown.
·        Place it on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
·        Repeat the same process for the rest of the batter.. Done!
                                      

Banana flower vadai is ready.. serve hot .. J
