Barley Water – Lazy Way to Reduce Weight: J
Barley water is a very good weight loss tool. Apart
from aiding in weight loss, will also help prevent dehydration, the onset of urinary tract infection and keep your body cool in the summer heat. To prepare barley
water, select the pearl brand of barley.
Ingredients
:

Barley – 1 cup (pearl barley)
·
Water – 5 cups
·
Cinnamon stick – 1 (optional)
·
Ginger - 1 inch(optional)
Preparation:
·
Wash and soak pearl barley in 5 cups of water overnight or
for 10 hrs.
Method
:
·
Place the barley + water, ginger, cinnamon in a pan.
Switch the heat on.
·
Now allow this mixture to come to a rolling boil.
·
Boil it and then simmer for 15 – 20 mins with a lid off.
This will reduce the amount of water by about 1/3.
·
The grains should
be softened and cooked and also there is a change in the colour of the water,
and the seeds will look translucent and bloated.
·
Now ,switch off the flame. Cool it and drain the water(discard
the barley seeds) Done!.
Barley
water is ready…
Note:
·
If u don’t like the taste of barley water, You can add the
juice of ½ lemon or some salt or honey or buttermilk to make it tastier J
·
Drink this water on a regular basis to help see best
results.. J
The
left over cooked barley can be used for :
·
Added to salads for taste and texture.
·
Pop it in a blender and use it as a thickener for
smoothies and also use it to prepare barley porridge.
